The world of gaming has made some interstellar leaps since the world of Sonic The Hedgehog. The PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One have shown what the modern gamer is capable of. The plots are more complex, the graphics are more and more beautiful, and we are going online to compete with people from all across the planet. The world of the gamer has changed from the standard gaming setup where you’d have your friends over. Not anymore! So how is the gamer audience changing? We used to equate computer games with kids, and now being a gamer is now a serious profession!

The Plots Are More Adult In Theme

From Grand Theft Auto: Vice City to Call Of Duty, we are seeing a rise in games where the plots are nothing but child-friendly! The ratings of games are now for the older gamer, and the marketing of any Halo offshoot is hardly aimed at the young kid. There were complaints about old versions of first-person shooters like Doom and Duke Nukem 3D being too violent, and those games were blocky affairs, without too many colors, and they were rated unsuitable for kids. Now we can see graphics in much more graphic detail than ever before! And as the gaming scripts have become more sophisticated and have the plots of a neo-noir thriller, with some Sherlock Holmes mixed in for good measure, complete with bad language, a child under the age of 5 would barely understand the intricacies of the plot!

The Cost Of Gaming Has Risen

Not just the console themselves, but the various accessories that comes with setting up a proper gamers den requires a decent amount of money. It seems that to set up a proper gamer’s “cave” you will need to invest in the essentials, like a mini fridge, a big screen TV, and proper seating. In fact, there are sites dedicated to gamer’s seats, xgamingchair.com/ being one that has so many options for making your evening in isolation a comfortable one. The cost of gaming has become an investment to many people who want to spend their free time vicariously killing people.

But The Real Question Is…

Are adults using their time properly by playing video games? I’m sure the boyfriends, husbands, wives, and girlfriends are likely to say “no” but that’s probably because they aren’t in on the action. Adult gaming has become such a popular pastime that it has rivaled the younger gamer for the control of the market. The younger gamers of today will soon be older gamers themselves, and the console markets are working out ways to keep people hooked well into their old age. And, in fact, there are some health benefits of playing games as you get older, happiness being one of them! So if you have a loved one who turns their nose up at you for playing late into the night, tell them that you’re releasing stress and that they should join in! Use your time wisely, and have some fun while you’re at it!
